Beginning Monday, Jan 7, 2008, a new AA group is meeting weekday mornings
at the Parish Center at St. Patrick's, Monday - Friday, 6-7am. FMI please
call the parish office at 563-3240. St. Patrick's works with Habitat for Humanity The Habitat for Humanity chapter which includes Lincoln County has a new name. It is Habitat for Humanity/7 Rivers Maine. This name change reflects the expanding mission of our chapter of Habitat which now includes 31 towns located along seven of Maines rivers. St. Patricks Church is a Covenant Church sharing Habitats mission to coordinate the labor of volunteers with contributions of time and talent, money and materials with the goal of helping 40 families move out of substandard living conditions through building new homes or renovating their family-owned houses. Lat year we worked on a project in Boothbay (see pictures) The Boothbay house is the first home to be built in Lincoln County, but two others are planned in the Bristol area. After a detailed application process, the Lane family was chosen as the new occupants. Since there are four children in the family, the original plan of a 3 bedroom house has been expanded to include the addition of a fourth bedroom in the finished basement. Habitat for Humanity requires that the selected family donate their time and talents for the project and the Lanes have responded with enthusiasm. St. Patrick's Day (our most recent work day) arrived with plenty of sun, but still quite a nip in the air. Our stalwart crew from the parish set off for the Boothbay construction site at 8 AM. Once there, we went right to work transferring a truckload of sheetrock from outside the home to the interior - two ( and sometimes 3 ) to a board. That task finished, we began sheetrocking the bedrooms and insulating the basement using skills we never needed before, muscles we never moved before, and tools we never saw before! But by the end of the day, we had completed insulating the basement and applying sheetrock to the ceilings and walls of two rooms. We were sustained throughout the taxing day by coolers of hearty sandwiches, soup, sodas, snacks and delicious homemade brownies and cookies provided by the Williams, Hoffmann, Anderson, and Ford familes. It certainly was a day of hard work, but also one of deep satisfaction as we all cooperated in furthering the mission of our covenenat with Habitat for Humanity to provide decent and affordable housing for our neighbors in Lincoln County. Another St. Pat on the back to Monique Studholme, Mariellen Whelan, Dennis and Toni Hopkins, Rita Stevens, Kendra Marchi, Matt Filler, Catherine Lyons, Jeannie Davis and Al Andrejcak. Spring Walk for Humanity Last Spring 25 St. Patrick's parishioners were rewarded with an absolutely beautiful day on Sunday as they made the 5 mile Spring Walk in support of Habitat for Humanity. There were 117 walkers overall, so St. Patrick's was one of the largest contingents from all the area churches. Thank you to all those who supported the walkers as patrons and bakers. You helped to make the day a success ! A particular thank you to Siobhan Anderson for her enthusiastic commitment to Habitat's goals and for all her hard work in organizing and promoting the event. The Habitat home in Boothbay is nearly completed and preparatory work
has begun on the home to be constructed in Bremen in the fall. If you
know of a family who would like to be considered as a Partnership Homeowner,
ask them to call Habitat for Humanity at 729-0311. The family selection
committee welcomes families who show a need for decent housing, can make
monthly mortgage payments of about $400, and are willing to work as partners
with Habitat. For more information, contact: Catherine Lyons @ 563-6912 Events
